Friday Classes

Double Knitting Basics with Nathan Taylor

In this class we will be exploring how the basic mechanics of DK work: looking at the structure of the fabric, and how the two sides interact with each other to create the interlocked, reversible beauty that only DK can give you.

We’ll be starting with a two-colour cast on, learning about simple, no-pattern DK (one colour on one side, and a different colour on the other), reading DK charts, changing colours, and while we are learning all of this information, we’ll be creating a cute little coaster.

Lace Techniques with Karie Westermann

In this class you will become a master of lace knitting. You will look at the techniques used and learn to understand how lace stitch patterns work and how to incorporate a lace stitch pattern into a design of your own.

Portuguese Knitting with Julia Billings

Learn to knit Portuguese-style! Worked with the yarn tensioned around your neck or on a knitting pin, this style of knitting has some clear advantages over other styles and is fast, efficient and easy on the hands. We’ll explore how to work the knit and purl stitches and stitch patterns that combine the two, increasing and decreasing, lace, stranded colourwork and other patterning, and Portuguese methods of casting on and off.

Steeking with Gwen Wagner-Adair

Has the idea of cutting your knitting to make a steek always terrified you? Let Gwen guide you through the process and see how easy it actually is.

Get Published! with Karie Westermann

If you harbour a desire to see your name in print – and maybe even on the cover of your favourite knitting magazine – this workshop is for you. Karie Westermann will take you through how to answer calls for magazine submissions. This is a hands-on workshop where you will learn to work with mood boards, figure out how to format eye-catching submissions, and gain insight into what commissioning editors look for.
